What Does the Bible Say About Astrology?

 Summary

Chances are high that you’ve seen a horoscope. You may even know your Zodiac sign! Astrology is the belief that your life and future is affected or determined by the alignment of celestial bodies like the stars and planets during the time that you were born.

 Now is that true?

Here are three things that should help you understand the right way to think about horoscopes and astrology:

Astrologers Cannot Predict the Future.

Horoscopes are so vague and general. They could apply to almost anyone. The sad fact is, astrologers and fortune-tellers cannot predict the future. Only God can.

Some of you will recall the story of the captive named Daniel. One day, his King had a very disturbing dream. While King Nebuchadnezzar wanted his dream interpreted, he couldn’t even remember his own dream! But he still summoned all his wise men, including the top astrologers and magicians.

Sadly, they couldn’t reveal the dream. And so, in great fury, he was about to kill all his wise men, including the Prophet Daniel. But Daniel asked for one chance to talk to the king and God gave him both the dream and its interpretation (Daniel 2:27-28). So only God can predict the future with 100 percent accuracy. And He has no equal (Isaiah 46:9-10).

God Wants Us to Stay Away from Astrology.

God wants His children to have nothing to do with astrology or horoscopes. Deuteronomy 18:9-13 is quite clear that it’s an abomination or an insult to Him. Contrary to what most people think, astrology and horoscopes are not as fun and innocent as some would have us believe.

Seek God’s Guidance Through Bible Study and Prayer.

There's no possibility that we can know the future apart from God because only He knows the future with absolute certainty. And so we can safely trust Him (Proverbs 3:5-6). If you lack wisdom, all you need to do is ask Him (James 1:5).

So He is the source of wisdom. And I hope that you and I will not consult the horoscope or an astrologer or a psychic or a soothsayer or any of those things because that's forbidden in the Bible and God doesn't want us to have anything to do with that.

And so let's seek Him and His word through prayer and Bible study. I know this will give us the wisdom to navigate this 2020. It will be full of challenges. There will be blessings and there will be hard times too. But we will always be in good hands because of the wisdom we can ask from the very Source and Well-spring of all truth and wisdom.

So, that's my message for you today. I hope it has helped you somewhat.

May God bless you as you seek Him and do His will.

Hello everyone. My name is Daniel and I'm the founder of Biblical Truths.

This year, today, we are starting a new show — a new YouTube channel. And the purpose is to equip and encourage and to empower God-loving Christians and all sincere truth-seekers to unlearn the lies — including in religion — and understand what the Bible really teaches.

And tonight, or today, I'm going to tackle a question that has been asked. And this is, What Does the Bible Say About Astrology or horoscopes? And I'm sure that you have at one point in time seen some of these horoscopes and maybe you even know your Zodiac sign. And, you know, based on the day you were born, this astrology and these horoscopes, this is the belief that somehow your life today is somehow affected by the alignment of celestial bodies like the stars or the planets in the sky, based on the time that you were born.

Now, is that true? Is there truth to that?

Today, I'd like to mention three things that would help you and help us to understand the right way to think about horoscopes and astrology. And there are three things that I'd like to share with you:

1. Astrologers Cannot Predict the Future — Only God Can Do That.

And the first thing that I'd like to point out is that horoscopes are so vague and so general that they could apply to almost anyone. And astrologers and fortune-tellers cannot predict the future. Only God can do that. If you would recall in some of your Bible stories, maybe you know the story of the Prophet Daniel. He was in Babylon. He was a captive.

And at one point in time, the king at that time, King Nebuchadnezzar, had a dream. And it was an amazing dream that he could not find out for… he couldn't really recall even what the dream was all about. And so he issued a command to the entire empire and said, I want you to summon everyone — all the wisest people in the kingdom — the astrologers, the magicians, everyone.

And sadly, all of those people there — the astrologers, the magicians — could not reveal the dream. They couldn't even tell the interpretation, much less… or they couldn't even tell the dream, much less the interpretation. And so he was about... he was so mad. He was about to kill all those people, including the Prophet Daniel.

And there was a time when Daniel talked to the king and said in the presence of the king:

“The secret which the king has demanded, the wise men, the astrologers, the magicians, and the soothsayers cannot declare to the king. But there is a God in heaven who reveals secrets, and He has made known to King Nebuchadnezzar what will be in the latter days.”

~Daniel 2:27-28

And so, it's only God in heaven who can, and who has the power to, reveal the future. And He has 100 percent accuracy in predicting future events.

You know, there's another passage in the book of Isaiah 46:9-10. And it says there that:

“…I am God, and there is none like Me, declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient [times], things that are not yet done, saying, ‘My counsel shall stand, and I will do all My pleasure…’”

And so you can see here that only God has the power to foretell future events. Men cannot. Astrologers cannot. Fortune-tellers and psychics cannot, sadly. And this brings us to point number two.

2. God Wants Us to Stay Away from Astrology, Which Is an Abomination to Him.

And point number two is that God wants us to stay away from astrology, horoscopes, and fortune-telling. Stay away from that. Have nothing to do with it. We can see that in the Bible in Deuteronomy 18:9-13. Let me just read it to you real quick. He said here:

“When you come into the land which the LORD your God is giving you, you shall not learn to follow the abominations of those nations…”

What are some of those things that they do?

“There shall not be found among you anyone who makes his son or his daughter pass through the fire, or one who practices witchcraft, or a soothsayer, or one who interprets omens, or a sorcerer, or one who conjures spells, or a medium, or a spiritist, or one who calls up the dead. For all who do these things are an abomination to the LORD, and because of these abominations, the LORD your God drives them out from before you. You shall be blameless before the LORD [or the Eternal (YHWH)], your God.”

And so, God does not want us to have anything to do with these kinds of practices — soothsaying, fortune-telling, any of these things — including horoscopes — as innocent as it may appear. You know, just reading your horoscope. You might think it's just harmless fun. You know, just a little bit of an interesting thing to start your day. But no. God said don't have anything to do with that. And so what should we do instead? If we cannot even consult the horoscope? If we couldn't even follow, you know, "What's the alignment of the stars what is the alignment of the planets this time?” If we cannot do that, what should we do then? And this leads me to my final point.

3. Read and Study the Bible and Seek God’s Direction and Guidance Through Prayer.

The third point, which is to read and study the Bible and seek God's direction and guidance through prayer. There's no possibility that we can know the future apart from God because only He knows the future with absolute certainty. And so that's the reason why in the Proverbs in the Bible — in Proverbs 3:5-6 — we read:

“Trust in the LORD (in the Eternal) with all your heart — with all your heart — and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways — not only in some of your ways, but in all your ways — acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.”

And so when we start the day we start with prayer and we start with Bible study. We want to know what God's will is. And we want Him to lead us into the right destination, into the right decisions, and to make the right choices. And what happens if we lack wisdom? In the book of James — James 1:5, it says:

“If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God…”

So He is the source of wisdom. And I hope that you and I will not consult the horoscope or an astrologer or a psychic or a soothsayer or any of those things because that's forbidden in the Bible and God doesn't want us to have anything to do with that.

And so let's seek Him, seek His word through prayer and through Bible study. And I hope that this is going to give us wisdom. And I know that this will give us the wisdom to navigate this 2020. It will be full of challenges. There'll be blessings and there will be hard times. Don't get me wrong. It's not all going to be smooth sailing this year. But we need wisdom and we can get that only from the One who is the Source of all wisdom.

So if these three points, if this video has helped you, we'd like to encourage you to share it. You know, to like it, to comment, and to subscribe. Also, so that you’ll be updated when we have any new content that we have out for you. So, you know, that's my message for you. I hope that it has helped you somewhat. And if you have any more questions, just feel free to comment or ask. And so, until next time, this is Daniel Macaraeg reminding you to always be growing, to always be giving, and to always be grateful.

And so, may God bless you as you seek Him and do His will.
